In the popular crowded place of Calangute is a Plaintain leaf…Well not actually the real one, but the graphics on the window high up on the first floor proclaims it for all to see. In this open airy non air-conditioned place with cushioned sofas is an udipi-style restaurant which surely ranks first in terms of popularity among pure vegetarian restaurants in that area. Although, the restaurant serves a multi-cuisine menu, the emphasis is on South Indian. Apart from the usual idlis, dosas and uttapams, you can ask for their Vegetarian Thali priced at Rs.100 – dal, rajma, sambar, curd, a pattal bhaji, rice and two puris it is a filling option. And then there is the special Thali at Rs.125…all of the above mentioned with an additional vegetable pulao, a raita, a sweet dish with three puris instead of two.
You will also find here Jain specials like Palak Paneer, Chana Masala and Chole Bhature here. North Indian favourites like Aloo Gobi, Aloo Matar and Navratan Pulao are on offer alongside the usual Chinese items like vegetables Fried Rice , Mushroom Rice and some noodles. Idli Chilli is a kind of novelty dish here. Ice cream and lassis make up the limited dessert menu. Mostly catering to the tourists, foreigners desirous of getting a taste of Indian Vegetarian fare, flock here regularly. The leaf needs to turn over.
