Kevin D’mello lives and breathes cinema. He’s an Indian actor born in the sunny state of Goa. He is already sharing screen space with some of India’s top actors.

The team of ItsGoa caught up with him and put him under the spotlight (pun intended). Humans of Goa is our original and official series that shares stories from the lives of Goans. Humans of Goa is made for and made up of Goans.

Let’s get started.

What do they call you at home?

“They call me Kev. Everybody in the family calls me that.

Kevin, if anyone were to ask you, “Please introduce yourself”. How would you do so?

I’m an actor, singer, dancer, and a highly motivated positive person. I like to experiment new things, and am humble towards constructive criticism.

When was the one moment when you decided that, “That’s it! I want to become an actor”

When I was shooting for my first film ‘Just a minute’, which is directed by Dnyanesh Moghe, I was quite raw and thought that my acting skills were not that upto the mark. Once the movie premiered at Kala Academy the outcome was excellent and I received so much appreciation from the public. I understood that if I get a good director, such as, Dnyanesh Moghe, Rajendra Talak, Darshan Lolienkar, Joywin Fernandes, Harry Fernandes, David Furtado, or Jojo D’Souza; I can learn new things and become a fine actor. I also enrolled into Kala Academy to improve my acting and see myself as a confident & versatile actor.

Why acting? and not painting or any other discipline?

As my father Cezar D’mello is an actor, director, and a script writer, its in my genes to become an actor. As a painter I’m very bad at it, but if given a character of a painter, I will be able to express and try to get into the shoe of the character as you must have seen me in CID Goa mission, where I played a negative role.

A bit about your role models. Any aspects or traits that makes them so…

Akshay Kumar, Sachin Tendulkar, Prince Jacob and Offcourse my dad Cezar D’mello. The good  thing about them is that they are all focused on whatever they do. No matter what they have all worked very hard to achieve it.

What role did family and friends play? Any quick incident you recall?

My family always supported me. My dad Cezar D’mello, my mother, Lydia D’mello , my sister Karen D’mello, and my aunty Pia Lobo, always guided me. They would even get up early themselves to make me ready to go on early film shoots. A lovely incident I remember is that of my brother-in-law Allen Lopes, along with his brother, Oswald Lopes, driving me all the way to Mangalore for a movie shoot (Benddkar), which made my journey so easy and smooth..

What is the legacy you want to leave behind, as an Indian actor? And for whom?

To all the youngsters, my only advise is – Try out in Goa first, and then move to Mumbai. Act in Goan Konkani films first. Chisel your craft and then take the next step towards Bollywood & the Indian film industry.
