We know most of our fellow Goans who have made it big in their respective fields, but there are some influential personalities who we didn’t know were Goans.

Bhumi Pednekar

The latest hottie in tinsel town happens to be from Goa. Born in Mumbai, Bhumi began her career as an assistant director for three long years under Yashraj banner and then went on to sign three big movies with A-list stars of bollywood. Now she’s counted as one of the promising personalities in Bollywood.

Tony Fernandes

Tony Fernandes,Malaysia’s AirAsia Group chief who was given the status of Overseas Citizen of India (OIC) by the Indian Government is also a Goan. According to The Indian Express Fernandes expressed his happiness saying “I am also delighted to share that I have been granted the OIC status. India has always been close to my heart as my father was from this country and Goa is my ancestral homeland.”

Lata Mangeshkar

The Nightingale of Bollywood and legendary playback singer also happens to be a Goan. She is known for her melodious voice. Ever since she was little, she wanted to pursue her career in singing. With hard work and talent she has become successful in the world of entertainment. Unknown fact about her is that her family’s last name used to be Hardikar. Her father Deenanath changed it to Mangeshkar that is derived from her native town, Mangeshi well-known place  in South Goa.

Vaz and Fernandes

Did you know The Uk parliament has three Goans? This year The United Kingdom (UK) parliament elected three Goan origin people namely– Keith Vaz, Valerie Vaz and Suella Fernandes as a part of the committee. This was the first time in the history of Goa wherein three persons of Goan-origin occupied the seats in the UK Parliament. Keith and Valerie Vaz are Labour MPs, while Suella Fernandes, is a British conservative party member. Very proud of what they have achieved!
