One the better North Indian restaurant in the Candolim area, The Orchid with its coffee shop-style concept is inspired by the cuisine of the famous Bukhara restaurant in Delhi, and features, besides popular North Indian specialties, preparations from the North-west Frontier area. The restaurant has a pleasant ambience and is located next to the pool. Bright hues of lemon, framed pictures on the wall, the arched window takes in the sunlight and the air conditioned space. Warm and vibrant, the pristine white tablecloths and napkins are offset with a pink cross cloth, the covers meticulously laid awaiting the meal.
The restaurant offers a lavish buffet spread of breakfast, lunch and dinner. If however you plan to order a la carte then start with Jhinga Lehsooni (charcoal grilled Jhinga flavoured with aromatic herbs and fresh garlic). Soft Sofiyani panner tikka is a vegan’s delight; (tandoori cottage cheese marinated with cream and fennel seeds granished with fresh anar dana ( pomegranate seeds). Meat Durbari/Gosht black cardamon (Lucknowi cuisine), the mutton has a strong flavour of cardamom and saffron with sirka (vinegar). Another favourite is the Murgh kadai kali mirch. As the name suggests, the chicken cooked in a kadai is tossed with tomatoes, onion and capsicum with black pepper. For the vegans, the shahi palak kofta is to be recommended. Deep fried cottage cheese dumplings are simmered in spiced Spinach puree. One pf their signature dishes is the spice dal. Did the piping hot Indian breads (the chefs prepare them piping hot and the waiters serve it on the table. Keep to the Indian theme for the sweet finale. Gul-e-Firdous (the all time favourite lauki and sabodana halwa with nuts). It is a great place for a meal if one is partial to North Indian food.
