Success is often measured by career milestones, titles, and accomplishments. For Sherie Ferrao, however, success has come to mean something far more personal, creating a life where ambition coexists with family, meaningful work, and the freedom to pursue what truly matters. Her journey from the fast-paced world of global finance to helping build family businesses in Goa reflects a thoughtful decision to redefine success on her own terms.
Born and raised in Panjim, Sherie embodies the warmth and simplicity often associated with Goa’s sussegad way of life. Academically driven from an early age, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Goa Engineering College before pursuing an MBA in Finance at Goa Institute of Management. While engineering laid a strong technical foundation, it was finance and business strategy that ultimately captured her interest and shaped the direction of her professional career.
A Strong Foundation in Global Finance
Sherie’s corporate journey began with Accenture, where she quickly realised that her long-term aspirations extended beyond her initial career path. This realisation led her to pursue higher studies in finance, opening the door to an internship that evolved into a rewarding seven-year career at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Working as an Investment Specialist, Sherie collaborated with some of the world’s largest institutional investors while interacting with high-performing teams across global markets. Starting as a fresh graduate, she steadily progressed into a managerial role, taking on increasing responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
Those years provided much more than technical expertise. They strengthened her analytical thinking, decision-making abilities, leadership skills, and problem-solving mindset, qualities that continue to influence every aspect of her professional life today. The corporate world also taught her the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and embracing challenges with confidence.
Coming Home to Goa
Despite building successful careers in Mumbai, Sherie and her husband had always shared a dream of returning to the place they both called home. Having met during their engineering days at Goa Engineering College, their relationship evolved from college companions to life partners who envisioned building their future in Goa.
In January 2025, as they prepared to welcome their first child, that dream became reality. Returning home represented much more than a change in location. It was an opportunity to embrace a slower pace of life, be closer to family, contribute to their family businesses, and raise their son in the environment that had shaped their own childhoods.
For Sherie, the move reinforced the belief that professional fulfilment does not always require remaining in a metropolitan city. Sometimes, it means bringing valuable experience back home and using it to create opportunities within one’s own community. Today, Sherie plays an active role in her family’s hospitality businesses in Assolna, South Goa, particularly supporting the newer ventures that have recently been established.
Her responsibilities extend from obtaining statutory approvals to curating menus and strengthening the businesses’ digital presence. Drawing upon her experience as a content creator, she also manages social media initiatives that help connect with both local customers and visitors.
Equally important, coming home to Goa has given Sherie something that corporate life could not, greater flexibility to be actively present during her son’s formative years while contributing meaningfully to her family’s long-term vision.
A Family United by Travel
Beyond entrepreneurship, travel has become one of the defining aspects of Sherie’s life. What began as a passion during her college years gradually evolved into a shared family pursuit after marriage. Together with her husband, she has explored 20 countries within just four and a half years, believing that travel is not merely about visiting destinations but about understanding cultures, meeting people, and experiencing the world through local traditions and cuisine.
Some journeys remain especially memorable. Finland fulfilled a lifelong dream, where magical moments included witnessing the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi, crossing the Arctic Circle, snowboarding, ice floating, enjoying husky rides, and visiting Santa Claus Village. The country’s hospitality and distinctive cuisine added another unforgettable dimension to the experience.
Kenya offered an entirely different adventure. Witnessing the Great Migration, observing the Big Five in their natural habitat, and watching a lioness with her cubs became powerful reminders of nature’s beauty and fragility. Kazakhstan surprised the couple with its dramatic landscapes, scenic road trips, pristine lakes, national parks, and rich culinary experiences, making it one of their favourite destinations.
Most recently, they celebrated their son’s first birthday during a three-week journey through Germany, Austria, and Portugal. Travelling with a one-year-old challenged common misconceptions surrounding family travel and reaffirmed their belief that meaningful adventures can be shared at every stage of life.
Redefining Parenthood Through Travel
As a new mother, Sherie openly acknowledges that travelling with young children can seem intimidating. Rather than attempting ambitious trips immediately, she and her husband gradually built confidence by starting with short overnight stays within Goa before progressing to domestic and international holidays.
This step-by-step approach helped them adapt as parents while allowing their son to comfortably experience new environments. Through her experiences, Sherie encourages other parents to travel at their own pace, choose family-friendly destinations, and rely on strong partnerships where responsibilities are shared. She believes that while every journey presents challenges, the memories created as a family far outweigh any temporary inconveniences.
Creating Content That Inspires
Sherie’s social media journey began with a simple intention, to help others. Friends and followers frequently sought her recommendations for travel itineraries, destination planning, and food experiences. Recognising this need, she began documenting her journeys, gradually expanding her content to include motherhood and her family’s entrepreneurial ventures.
Her latest initiative, @gatecheckedparents, is dedicated to encouraging families to embrace travel with young children. Through practical experiences, honest storytelling, and useful advice, she hopes to reassure parents that travelling with children is not only possible but deeply rewarding.
Rather than pursuing trends, her content reflects authenticity, education, and genuine experiences, making it relatable to a growing audience of travellers and young families.
Finding Joy in Everyday Passions
Away from business and content creation, Sherie nurtures a variety of creative interests that contribute to her balanced lifestyle. Music has remained an important part of her life since childhood. Having learnt the violin before later taking up the guitar, she continues to enjoy singing alongside her husband, an accomplished violinist. Their family jam sessions, now accompanied by their young son’s enthusiastic rhythm on tiny percussion instruments, have become treasured moments at home.
She is equally passionate about coffee culture, often seeking out local cafés while travelling, and enjoys journaling as a way to reflect on life’s experiences. An avid notebook collector, she finds that writing helps her remain grounded, appreciate the present, and maintain a positive outlook amidst life’s many responsibilities.
Growing with Every Chapter
Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, travel, and content creation requires careful organisation, but Sherie believes that balance is never achieved alone.
The unwavering support of her husband and extended family has allowed her to embrace each role with confidence. Whether at work, planning travel itineraries, raising a toddler, or creating meaningful content, she approaches every responsibility with enthusiasm rather than striving for perfection.
Looking ahead, her aspirations remain refreshingly simple. She hopes to see the family’s ventures continue to grow into businesses that the local community values, while continuing to explore the world with her husband and son, discovering new cultures and creating lifelong memories together.
Her message resonates strongly with aspiring entrepreneurs, travellers, and young parents alike: success is not defined by a single career path but by having the courage to choose the life that feels right. By bringing knowledge back home, embracing change, and remaining open to new experiences, individuals have the opportunity to create meaningful lives, not only for themselves but also for the communities they call home.
