Nestled in Parra, North Goa, Taverna Miguel has grown from being a restaurant within Martin’s Siesta Boutique Resort into a destination that brings together food, music, hospitality and the spirit of Goa. Founded in 2016 by Claudio Pacheco and his wife and co-owner, Tessy D’Souza, the restaurant reflects their shared journey into hospitality and their appreciation for Goa’s culture, cuisine and community.
Open daily from 8:30 AM to 11:30 PM, Taverna Miguel offers a diverse culinary experience spanning Goan, Indian, Asian and Continental cuisine. Yet at its heart remains a strong commitment to authentic Goan food, warm service and an atmosphere where guests can relax, celebrate and spend meaningful time together.
From Furnishings to Hospitality
Claudio Pacheco’s professional journey began in the furnishing and interiors industry, where his early experiences eventually led to the establishment of Habitat, his flagship store. Over three decades, he built the business around creating beautiful and functional spaces, offering soft furnishing fabrics, rugs and carpets, wood laminate flooring, wallpapers, bed, bath and table linen, as well as custom-made furniture.
His career also included ventures into resort-wear wholesale, mattress repairs and curtain stitching, each experience contributing to his understanding of design, business and customer needs. Hospitality later became another chapter in that journey with Martin’s Siesta Boutique Resort and, subsequently, Taverna Miguel.
What began as part of the resort gradually developed into a personal passion. Today, Pacheco is increasingly involved in shaping the restaurant’s growth, with an ambition to establish Taverna Miguel among Goa’s leading dining destinations while preserving the warmth, character and spirit that define it.
Away from business, his interests include singing and cycling, while football remains a particular passion. He also holds a deep appreciation for nostalgic Goa, its architecture, food, culture, old-world charm and the memories connected to an earlier era.
A Celebration of Goa
The concept behind Taverna Miguel is rooted in the spirit of Goa and the simple pleasure of bringing people together over good food, music and conversation. Its Portuguese-Goan-inspired setting provides a sense of place, while the multicultural menu ensures that diners have a broad selection to choose from.
The restaurant aims to offer more than a conventional dining experience. Its relaxed tropical atmosphere, live entertainment, bar and food come together to create a setting suitable for family meals, celebrations, evenings with friends or simply unwinding after a long day.
Authentic Goan cuisine remains central to that identity. The restaurant places particular emphasis on traditional flavours and dishes prepared by Goans, including wholesome thalis, seafood and classic meat preparations that are becoming increasingly difficult to find on contemporary menus.
Goan Cuisine at the Heart
Although the menu extends across Indian, Chinese, Thai and Continental offerings, Goan food remains the defining element of Taverna Miguel’s culinary identity.
The restaurant serves traditional preparations featuring seafood, buffalo beef and pork, along with familiar Goan curries and regional specialities. Its thalis are among its highlights, offering generous portions at accessible prices starting from ₹200.
The Seafood Thali includes fish curry, rice, phulka, a traditional Goan bhaji, fried fish, pickle, papad, salad, sol curry, curd, gulab jamun and fruit. Vegetarian diners can enjoy a dedicated Vegetarian Thali featuring rice, phulka, bhaji, one vegetable curry, paneer bhaji, dal, pickle, papad, salad, sol curry, curd and gulab jamun.
Traditional Portuguese influence also makes an appearance through the restaurant’s Portuguese-style desserts, adding another layer to its connection with Goa’s culinary heritage.
Signatures Worth Exploring
For first-time visitors, Taverna Miguel recommends exploring its range of Goan specialities. The selection includes Beef Chilli Fry, BBQ Pork Sizzler, Pork Sorpotel, Samarachi Kodi, Tongue Roast, Chicken Cafreal, Sausage Chilli Fry, Chicken Xacuti, Mutton Xacuti, Fish Recheado and a variety of prawn preparations.
The restaurant’s approach is centred on fresh ingredients and traditional flavours, with dishes prepared to preserve the character of the cuisine. Beyond Goan fare, the kitchen also serves Asian wok dishes, including Chinese and Thai preparations made with fresh ingredients and cooked to order.
A Menu for Every Diner
Inclusivity is an important part of Taverna Miguel’s dining philosophy. Vegetarian guests are offered an extensive selection rather than a limited range of alternatives.
Among the choices are Mushroom Xacuti, Dal Makhani, Dal Palak, Veg Pulao, Veg Biryani, Veg Shami Kebabs, Paneer Tikka, Paneer Tikka Masala and Paneer Butter Masala. Vegetarian diners can also explore Asian dishes such as Veg Tom Kha Soup and Veg Thai Red Curry.
Breakfast brings another selection, with favourites such as Puri Bhaji, Pav Bhaji, Upma, vegetable sandwiches, Poha and Chole Bhature. The menu further includes more than eight varieties of salads and over six types of soups, including Sweet Corn and Tomato Soup.
For those seeking a meat-free way to experience Goan cuisine, the restaurant also offers vegetarian Goan preparations, ensuring that the region’s flavours remain accessible to a wider range of diners.
From Cocktails to Mocktails
The bar adds another dimension to the Taverna Miguel experience. While the former mixologist is no longer with the team, the current bar team continues to serve a selection of familiar favourites.
Classic cocktails such as Piña Coladas, Margaritas and Mojitos feature alongside refreshing mocktails and straightforward choices including Rum & Coke and vodka with juice. The selection is designed to complement everything from casual dinners to lively evenings of music and celebration.
Music, Dancing and Nights to Remember
Live entertainment plays a significant role in the restaurant’s identity, with different musical experiences throughout the week.
Tuesdays feature Ladies’ Night, with complimentary drinks for ladies, a live band and a mix of English and Konkani hits and classics. Wednesdays bring a combination of pop, rock, slow rock, classic rock, modern hits and retro favourites, creating an evening particularly suited to dancing and relaxed gatherings.
Fridays take on a more interactive character with Karaoke Night. Guests can sing their favourite songs, dedicate music to someone special or simply enjoy the performances while dining. English and Konkani music runs from 8 PM to 11 PM, accompanied by the restaurant’s regular bar, cocktails and mocktails.
The Friday experience also includes an unlimited buffet and drinks package priced at ₹850 per person, alongside the regular à la carte menu. The emphasis remains on creating an enjoyable evening without making a night out feel unnecessarily expensive.
Saturdays turn back the clock with English and Konkani retro favourites, while Sundays feature a blend of English, Portuguese and Konkani songs, including slow numbers and timeless classics. Each evening therefore carries its own character, allowing guests to return for a different experience throughout the week.
A Place for the Goan Community
For Taverna Miguel, hospitality extends beyond food and entertainment. The restaurant seeks to create a space where people feel comfortable, welcomed and connected.
Families and the local community are particularly important to its vision. Whether guests arrive for breakfast, a meal, drinks, live music or a celebration, the intention is to offer an environment that feels relaxed and familiar while retaining the excitement of an evening out.
Over the years, the restaurant has also become a setting for numerous celebrations, including Roce ceremonies, birthdays, Portuguese celebrations, anniversaries and other milestones. Events have been hosted at the poolside venue at Martin’s Siesta as well as its banquet hall, Rofina.
For Pacheco, some of the most meaningful moments have been less about large occasions and more about the relationships formed around the table. Reconnecting with childhood friends at the restaurant, sharing conversations over a glass of wine and enjoying moments of laughter have become among the most rewarding aspects of running the establishment.
Looking Ahead
Taverna Miguel continues to evolve through new dishes, special offers, experiences and regular entertainment. Its aim is not simply to provide another place to dine, but to create an environment where food, music and community naturally come together.
At the centre of that vision is a desire to retain the restaurant’s connection to Goa while continuing to give guests reasons to return. From traditional Goan dishes and generous thalis to Asian cuisine, cocktails, karaoke and live music, the experience is designed to cater to different tastes while remaining grounded in its local identity.
Ultimately, Taverna Miguel’s philosophy is straightforward: good food should be accompanied by genuine hospitality and memorable moments. With its emphasis on Goan flavours, lively evenings and community spirit, the restaurant continues to build its place within Goa’s dining landscape, one meal, celebration and shared memory at a time.
