Perched on a hill-top overlooking the magnificent and picturesque Small Vagator Beach lies Thalassa. This is where the warmth of Greek hospitality amalgamates instinctively with the laid-back, free and tranquil atmosphere and vibe of Goa. A perfect marriage to say the least. Thalassa is not just a restaurant but much more. A day or evening spent at Thalassa is nothing short of sweet bliss. Thalassa is an acronym for the sea in Greek and the view from the restaurant is the magnificient Thalassa. Dressed in white, the restaurant gently leans over the cliff and gazes upon the Ozran Beach below. The sea and the horizon unite to bring a kind of ecstasy to the onlooker’s heart. The sun shines brightly in the day radiating its warmth and light on one’s mind. As it leaves, the sun and the clouds work their magic and create a sight that will always be indelibly etched into one’s soul. Each evening a new work of art unfolds and life seems to slow down to a breath and eventually to just a heartbeats. The tantalizing aroma of the authentic Greek cuisine prepared with great love fills the air and intoxicates.

The Movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding had its focus on traditional values for Paula to come to terms with her cultural heritage. Now there is a place in Goa perched on the rocky cliffs where on can sit on cushioned cane chairs, sip on Ouzo and sample the cultural flavour of Greece. This open air Taverna features fare specifically chosen by owner Mariketty. She creates the homely atmosphere found in most Greek houses. Try her Tzatzika Dip (creamy combo of yoghurt, garlic, cucumber and olive oil or the Tiro Kef Teri (a spicy feta cheese dip) with pita bread. The Mussels with Ouzo Suce you would be excused if you exclaim oou after every slurp. As the moon shimmers on Thalassa (Greek for sea), start with the traditional Greek salad (Horiatiki). Drenched in kalamata olive oil topped with oregano, tomatoes, cucumber, onion and green pepper jostle with one another. If you prefer seafood order the Baked Kingfish Fillet the bouquet of the fish cooked with oregano and dill, wrapped in a banana leaf.

From the souvlaki wraps, kleftiko, Greek salad to the beautiful seafood. Dining here is a joy. Portions befitting a feast spread. The wine to spirits and cocktails blend perfectly with the ambience and culinary delights of Thalassa. Come and get to know them better.

But the famous Greek meat preparations, soft and succulent enough to transport you to Corfu Mariketty’s original home, still rule the menu. The Moussakas (beef/lamb or even vegetarian) or the Lamb Gyros ooze flavours that will have you begging for more. Once a month, Mariketty plans to have Greek feast nights. With Syrtaki a dance with the snapping of fingers and breaking of plates there is no need to watch celebrations through reel life. Move over Toula; it is happening here in Goa. As the gentle breeze wraps you in its embrace, try an exciting variety of desserts from home made Greek yoghurt to rich cheesecakes. One does not need to be invited to a Greek wedding; this is a repast to remember.
