Aspiring seafarers in Goa can now sign up for updated entry level training programs and avail of internationally recognised certificate courses in order to make them job ready for the shipping industry at the newly instituted Verna-based Kamaxi Maritime Academy (KMA), the state’s newest maritime academy dedicated to preparing students for onshore and offshore positions in the industry.
The comprehensive onsite short-term courses are approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, India.
The setting up of the KMA by the Kamaxi Group, comes at a time when there is a growing need for young talent to adapt to the evolving needs of the global shipping industry, which is shifting towards decarbonisation and digitalisation. As the maritime sector faces a significant shortage of skilled labour, the academy offers a range of comprehensive short-term courses designed to equip aspiring maritime professionals with the necessary skills to thrive in this dynamic industry.

The newly established academy operates under the Kamaxi Group, a leader in hospitality training, recruitment, and skilling. The Verna-based academy adds to the maritime educational landscape in Goa, which already hosts institutions like the NUSI Maritime Academy, Institute of Maritime Studies and the SeaScan Maritime Institute, among others.
KMA’s state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced classrooms, a computer lab, an updated library, and a comprehensive assessment centre, provide students with a cutting-edge learning environment. The academy’s curriculum is meticulously designed to address contemporary industry practices, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to secure employment and excel in their maritime careers.
Among the courses offered by KMA are the Basic STCW Safety Training Course, which meets the mandatory requirements for seafarers’ familiarisation, safety training, and instruction as per the STCW Code; Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STSDSD), providing essential knowledge for seafarers involved in Ship Security Plans (SSP); Refresher courses in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (RFPFF) and Personal Survival Techniques (RPST), ensuring that seafarers meet the latest safety standards; and a combined Basic STCW Safety Training and Security Training (BST+STSDSD) course that covers essential safety and security duties.
