According to TOI reports McDonald’s is supposed to shut 169 restaurants in India due to its terminating agreement with Connaught Plaza Restaurant Ltd (CPRL), alleging breach of contract and payment defaults. As all McD outlets in North and East of India are associated with CPRL they cannot run for longer. “We have been compelled to take this step because CPRL has materially breached the terms of the respective franchise agreements relating to the affected restaurants,” the company said in a statement.
McDonald’s also admitted to “remain fully committed to the opportunity in North and East India” and pointed out it was “taking steps to find the right developmental licensee” for the geography in concern “as part of our effort to rebuild the brand”. (according to the Financial Express)
But good news for Goans is that McDonald’s outlets will remain open in South and West India, as they are tied up with different franchise operators.
Hope McDonald’s doesn’t have to take such steps in Goa and deprive us of good food!
