‘The Awakening’, a short film created by students of Don Bosco College, Panjim, celebrated a milestone with its official selection and screening at the Waves International Short Film Festival. Directed by Rameez Shaikh, the film was showcased on January 17, 2025, at the prestigious Maquinez Palace.
This thought-provoking film delves into the theme of apathy, shedding light on society’s indifference to critical environmental issues. Director Rameez Shaikh credited the film’s success to the collective dedication and hard work of his team. The talented cast includes Siya Chodankar and Cyrus Fernandes, whose powerful performances leave a lasting impact. Behind the scenes, Sharvi Dhond and Ebenezer R. from the production team ensured smooth operations, managing the necessary equipment. Numair Khan played a pivotal role as both the screenplay writer and cinematographer, while Varun Kashyap skilfully edited the film with stunning effects. The film’s emotional depth was amplified by a musical score composed by Cyrus Fernandes, complemented by immersive sound design by Merister Gomes, with Boskon Studio providing valuable support during the sound design process.
‘The Awakening’ has received international acclaim, including recognition as the South Asia Regional Winner at the Don Bosco Global Film Festival, where it was screened in over 150 countries. Its focus on environmental conservation also earned it a screening at the Mangrove Festival, further amplifying its message. This achievement underscores the talent and creativity of the students of Don Bosco College, Panjim, and their dedication to addressing global issues through the art of filmmaking.
